This is the case for at least usb and firewire burners/cdroms (handled 
through umass(4) and sbp(4)).

But there are cdrom drivers other than cd(4) for some very old ones: scd(4), 
mcd(4) and matcd(4), but I suppose, they don't work through CAM.
