I'm taking the opportunity to give a generic answer to what will probably
become a FAQ now, so please don't think I'm trying to flame you or anything
of that sort. ;-)

Attention all readers of this list:

-- XComposite support in X.org is *alpha quality*. --

                    -- It's buggy, unstable and slow. --

Also, the Translucency/Shadows options in KDE are just a generic interface to
the XComposite extension of Xorg. If something doesn't work, it's a bug in X,
not KDE. If there are graphical artifacts on your desktop, it's a bug in X,
not in KDE. If something is unbearably slow, it's a performance problem in X,
not in KDE.

Bugs against X.org can be filed (or browsed) at http://bugs.freedesktop.org.

IMO, if it doesn't work at all, that's nothing to be sad about. I personally
spent a few hours on rewriting my xorg.conf (to use MergedFB dualhead instead
of classical Xinerama, so XComposite would do something else than just paint
garbage all over my screens) in order to test kompmgr, and it definitely was
*not* worth it.

Regarding your problem, .nbco, Xorg 6.8.2 is in ports now, so I'd suggest
updating Xorg and see if it makes a difference.
