Hello,

I've upgraded my fbsd 5.3-rel-p5 to kde 3.4. The upgrade went fine, no
(major) problems. But now when I do a "startx" (I don't use kdm) it
takes several minutes before kde is up and running (my system is a p4
3.2 GHz with 512 MB ram and a 50 GB partition for fbsd).

Kde hangs at the "starting system services" for about 2 minutes, then
I get the welcome/startup sound and the kde splash-screen goes away,
then a white screen without any desktop background or icons and just
the outline of the kicker (no icons are visible). There it takes
another minute before my background and the kicker come back and kde
is operational. I don't suppose this behaviour is normal ?

I tried to remove completely the ~/.kde directory but then "startx"
doesn't start anything any more. Stops with a black screen...

Any suggestions on how to speed up the kde startup again ?

Thanks,

Beni.
