Yep, back then, heimdal wouldn't build and it seemed the maintainer was 
neglecting it.  So I installed krb5 and got around my problems.  For this 
problem, I figured I'd try heimdal to see if it would build. It did, so I 
then rebuilt kdelibs and kdebase and now KNewsTicker is working.

Sorry to ask a question twice, I'm still trying to firgure out how to resolve 
ports issues on my own...
