I may have read the question wrong but it seems that David just wants to mount 
cdroms or any media inside of the KDE interface and see the contents. If my 
assumption is correct then that is pretty easy to do with FreeBSD. What I do 
is setup the mount and umount commands with kwikdisk. Once that is done I 
simply made a link to device on my kdedesktop and configured it to mount at 
my home dir ie ~/dvd/. After that I simply mount the media by right clicking 
and selecting mount. Once the device is mounted the icon changes. Click the 
device again and the contents are displayed in konqueor. If I misinterpreted 
the question, I am sorry for wasting your time.
