I'm running KDE 3.4.0 on FreeBSD 5.4 with the following line in my / etc/ttys file:

ttyv8 "/usr/local/bin/kdm -nodaemon" xterm on secure

I also have "exec startkde" in ~/.xinitrc

When I boot, I'm presented with the KDE login window with my user listed at the side of the window, but when I enter the password, the login window disappears temporarily and then returns. I'm definitely being authenticated correctly, though - if I type the password wrongly, I just get the standard "Password incorrect" (or something to that effect) on the login window.

KDE works fine if I change the line in /etc/ttys to "... xterm off secure", login at the command prompt and type "startx", so it's not as if KDE just isn't working on my system...

Does anyone know how I could rectify this - I couldn't find anyone with a similar problem on Google?

Many thanks,
Rich
