I'm not sure if it's related, but ever since I updated to kdebase-3.5.3_1, the Storage Media kicker applet has been playing up. I upgraded to kdebase-3.5.3_3 yesterday, but it's still not functioning correctly. When kde starts, the applet loads, but doesn't display any devices. You can click on it's handle in kicker and get the normal menu options. In configure, various media types are enable, but the Media tab shows no "devices to display". If I mount a removable device at thge command line, suddenly Storage Media displays all the removable devices (in my case CD & DVD and my USB drive) and functions quite normally until KDE is shut down again.
