Yes the appImage works, I actually found and tried that a just a few minutes after posting. Still this is no reason why the versions on both your ppa and Canonical's ones should have stopped working in the last few weeks! The linked thread goes through all the steps I have tried, I didn't feel it needed repeating here... But I didn't mention versions. Canonical: 4:17.12.3-0ubuntu1 PPA: 4:18.04.1+git201805021218~ubuntu18.04.1 I guess for now I'll just have to remember to open it via the appImage and manually check if newer versions are out.....
