Recently my wife and daughter have switched from KDE 3.7.0 to 3.7.4 and akonadi was not able to transfer the akonadi-data and all accounts have to be reentered. So, they also switched to thunderbird which really works pretty smooth and much faster syncing. I do not have had any problem at all! Sorry, not the subject here, but it should be mentioned. May be I come back if akonadi/kmail is really mature.
