I think that something happened with mail dispatcher agent in akonadi. It is started but when I tried to check queue of the agent it gave me error "blabla... .service file not found". I can not give you exact error text right now. I had to fallback to old kmail because I need to work at the moment. In few hours I'll install kmail 4.8 again and will answer your questions.
