- can I add a lease with an IP of a given subnet but outside of a particular
pool?
Yes for sure. If the lease exists it takes precedence even before an existing
reservation which makes a headache for me.
- does kea actually use the lease to assign the IP? I mean, can this feature be
used as a poor man's alternative to the JSON/DB based concept of host
reservation?
Yes it does and no, it cannot be used. The lease is time limited and then
disappears if the device is off for some time. Your pseudo reservation will
then be gone.
