Thanks, Darren. I dug deeper into the logs and in this instance the unattended
upgrades service did run before this. It appears that service is scheduled to
run daily and if that's true, then for some reason, the DHCP4 service won't
come back up only on some occasions.

But I agree with your thinking re auto updates. I'm going to disable the
service.

Hi Corby,

In addition to Carsten's note, I would point out this line which is sort of
attached to the previous line (perhaps due to copy/paste):

Oct 01 06:12:45 access-dhcp1 systemd[1]: Stopping isc-kea-dhcp4-server.service
- Kea DHCPv4 Service...

You say no one performed this command. If this is Ubuntu, I would check for
"unattended upgrades" package:
https://documentation.ubuntu.com/server/how-to/software/automatic-updates/ as
this service WILL unexpectedly restart services. Generally speaking,
unattended upgrades are a very bad idea because things may break during an
update and a human needs to be in attendance so that they might be fixed in a
timely fashion (actually, upgrades should first be tested in a lab environment
if you want to be really safe).

Thank you,
Darren Ankney

No human is issuing the stop service command. Does it periodically restart
itself? The system didn't reboot. The service was running for five days.

The fourth Oct 01 entry is an error. These are the hook libraries I'm using.

libdhcp_pgsql.so
libdhcp_subnet_cmds.so
libdhcp_lease_cmds.so
libdhcp_stat_cmds.so
libdhcp_host_cmds.so
libdhcp_legal_log.so

They are all present in the file system, they don't go away. The Postgresql
database is still running.
