NEW DELHI - The finance ministry is mulling relaxing norms for
banks
regarding their exposure to corporates, particularly in the
infrastructure
sector, The Financial Express reported today.
The banking division of the ministry and a sub-committee of a
group of
ministers are examining the proposal and will submit their report
soon, the
newspaper said.
The report, through unnamed sources, said the proposal forwarded
to the
Reserve Bank of India and the finance ministry is based on a request
received
from Reliance Power.
Currently, commercial banks are prescribed a credit exposure
ceiling of
15% of their net worth in the case of a single corporate entity and
40% of
capital funds in the case of a borrower group. End
