Karnataka minister says state to offer Tata Motors land in Dharwad
Wednesday, Sep 17
BANGALORE - The Karnataka government will offer Tata Motors Ltd
land in
Dharwad for the firm's small car plant, Minister for Large and Medium
Scale
Industries Murugesh Nirani told NewsWire18 today.
"In Dharwad," Nirani said when asked where the state government
plans to
offer land for the small car plant.
He, however, declined to give further details.
"Still it (offering land to Tata Motors) is in initial stage, we
have not
discussed anything (with Tata Motors). We will talk tomorrow
(Thursday)
morning, then I will tell you," Nirani said.
Senior officials of Tata Motors including Managing Director Ravi
Kant are
expected to meet Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa Thursday.
Speculations are Tata Motors' Chairman Ratan Tata may also attend
the
meeting.
"Responsible persons from Tata Motors are coming. If he (Tata) is
free,
he will attend," Nirani said.
Tata Motors already has a site in Dharwad and the company is in
the
process of setting up a bus manufacturing facility through its joint
venture
company Tata Marcopolo Motors Ltd, official spokesperson of the
company said.
Tata Marcopolo Motors Ltd is a 51:49 joint venture between Tata
Motors
and Brazil's Marcopolo S.A. to manufacture and sell fully built buses
and
coaches.
Tata Motors' small car project at Singur in West Bengal has been
suspended after the main opposition party Trinamool Congress protested
against it over land issue.
At 3:13PM, shares of Tata Motors were traded at 418 rupees on
National
Stock Exchange, up 4.80% from Tuesday's close. End
