A.O. Smith to set up water heating manufacturing unit in Bangalore

    NEW DELHI - A.O. Smith India Water Heating Pvt. Ltd. plans to
construct
a plant in Bangalore to manufacture residential water heaters, the
company
said today.
    "India water heater market last year was 160,000 units. It is
growing at
double-digit figure and we hope to be a leading company in India once
the
plant is fully operational," Tamal Chaudhuri, national sales and
marketing
manager, told reporters.
    The plant, which will employ around 100 people, will start
operations by
second quarter of calendar year 2010.
    The company officials, however, declined to divulge investment and
production capacity of the Bangalore unit.
    The Indian arm of U.S.-based A.O. Smith Corp. has tied up with
retail
majors like Reliance Digital, Metro Cash & Carry, Home Town and
Spencer's
Retail to sell their products, a company official said.
    A.O. Smith India Water Heating forayed into the Indian market in
2005.
Currently, it imports water heaters from China and sells in Indian
market.
