Laptop does not suspend on lid close when external monitor connected

Bug description:
Since update to Vivid, laptop does not suspend on lid close if an external
monitor is connected. The external monitor blanks briefly and then resumes.
It suspends ok using the menu and does suspend on lid close if the external
monitor is not connected.
On Utopic it suspended ok with external monitor.
