Christopher, I have tried the last upstream kernel v4.0-rc3-vivid using the iwlwifi-7260-9.ucode and the latest iwlwifi-7260-12.ucode firmware.
Unfortunately the problem of varying connection speed persists with the iwlwifi-7260-12.ucode firmware which I got from the package linux- firmware_1.143. It seems the situation is ok (like in ubuntu kernel 3.13.0-40.69) with older iwlwifi-7260-9.ucode firmware which on the other hand cause the dmesg | grep iw: [ 1.232620] iwlwifi 0000:04:00.0: enabling device (0000 -> 0002) [ 1.236731] iwlwifi 0000:04:00.0: Unsupported splx structure [ 1.239633] iwlwifi 0000:04:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-7260-12.ucode failed with error -2 [ 1.239647] iwlwifi 0000:04:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-7260-11.ucode failed with error -2 [ 1.239654] iwlwifi 0000:04:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-7260-10.ucode failed with error -2 [ 1.239656] iwlwifi 0000:04:00.0: request for firmware file 'iwlwifi-7260-10.ucode' failed.
