Christopher, I have tried the last upstream kernel v4.0-rc3-vivid using
the iwlwifi-7260-9.ucode and the latest iwlwifi-7260-12.ucode firmware.

Unfortunately the problem of varying connection speed persists with the
iwlwifi-7260-12.ucode firmware which I got from the package linux-
firmware_1.143. It seems the situation is ok (like in ubuntu kernel
3.13.0-40.69) with older iwlwifi-7260-9.ucode firmware which on the
other hand cause the dmesg | grep iw:

[    1.232620] iwlwifi 0000:04:00.0: enabling device (0000 -> 0002)

        bss flags:      short-slot-time

where the signal with older iwlwifi-7260-9.ucode firmware keeps between
(-40dBm ; -51dBm) while with iwlwifi-7260-12.ucode jumps between (-40dBm
; -99 dBm)

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help with this
issue.

Thank you.
