in response to comment #5 This is not a kernel problem but rather a init script problem with initrd not executing `iscsistart` command to login to iscsi boot target. If you read bug description above, you will see there is a workaround by manually running this command on 14.04. I know sles11sp3/rhel6.1 or later are working even though their kernels are older than v4.0.

User has to run `iscsistart -b` manually to login to iscsi boot target, type `exit` for OS to continue to boot.
