However, brightness only varies over a narrow range which is entirely brighter than the normal brightness for running on battery. - Moving the mouse or hitting a "normal" key restores brightness to the expected levels for battery mode and restores the brightness keys to normal operation. After about 20 seconds of no user input, the bug pops up again. - When I'm running on AC power, there's no change in screen brightness on inactivity. However, after inactivity, the brightness keys are still inverted. This mode is so subtle that for a long time I never noticed it and thought that this bug only occurred on battery. I'm running Oneiric with kernel 3.0.0-15-generic. I first noticed this bug upon upgrading to Oneiric, but another bug kept me running a Natty kernel (2.6.38-10) until recently. Natty kernels didn't exhibit this bug, so it's a regression. Unfortunately, I'm not running Precise, so I can't test it.
