I will update to Ubuntu 15.10 in the next 1-2 weeks. It has a pretty recent kernel (4.2). If I'm still able to reproduce this issue there I will install the latest kernel from the link. Will get back with the results.

When this happens the whole machine gets unresponsive immediately and only restarting helps. It only turns out from the atop logs what happened after the machine was restarted. Atop is configured to run every 30 secs. It is visible from the atop logs that kswapd0 is eating up all the CPU resources. Strange thing is that this happens despite there is no swap enabled. This happens mostly when Virtualbox is running and only a few amount of memory is available. cat /proc/version_signature Ubuntu 3.19.0-30.34-generic 3.19.8-ckt6 If you need any addition information please let me know.
