It is rather a matter of your soundcard and how it is configured to pick up the pcskr events than an issue of beep that it doesn't work. You can try "sudo modprobe pcspkr" and try beep again afterwards if it issues a beep. The module is blacklisted for several releases already because the soundcard is supposed to pick those events up. Seemingly not all do though. > ping -a does not produce sound Seems to be the same issue, but even when beep works, this might be something your terminal blocks additionally, so you should watch out for that then once you got beep working for you.
