Title:
HDMI not working after update to linux image 3.8.0.31.46

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Operating System: Ubuntu 13.04 64-bit
Hardware: Acer Aspire x3450 AMD Athlon II X2 220 Processor x 2; Graphics
Gallium 0.4 on AMD RS880; Monitor Samsung Syncmaster P2250.
Problem/Bug: HDMI video output from pc to Samsung Syncmaster P2250 via
HDMI/DVI adaptor cable no longer works after Ubuntu's Software Updater updated
my system from linux-image 3.8.0.30.44 to 3.8.0.31.46.
I get an initial purple screen, without the Ubuntu logo, then absolutely
nothing.
Had to revert to old style analogue connection to make my system useable.
