Hi Managed to resolve this. As it was always linked to pop up menus it seemed to be a graphics issue. My IT support was able to identfy that this was the problem and change graphics card mode. Sorry can't tell you any more as I was out of the room.

Logging in is like from boot with no open files/programmes saved. This is reproducible 100% of the time.
