Confirmed 4.6.0-10-generic_4.6.0-10.12 can boot without hitting the
orange screen.
Instead however, it boots seemingly without proper kernel mode setting.
I see unity-greeter in low resolution and then the whole system is
frozen.
Anyway, suffice to say there the orange screen issue doesn't seem to be
finding its way into Ubuntu distro. So the bug is invalid for Ubuntu
right now.

Booting with Nvidia GTX 970 hangs with an orange screen in kernels 4.7
and 4.8rc1 (but works with 4.4.0).
I've tried:
* Plain yakkety 4.4.0-34-generic
* Mainline kernel 4.7
* Mainline kernel 4.8rc1
and only the first one works. Kernels 4.7 and 4.8rc1 freeze with a bright
orange screen.
Best I can tell, the frozen orange screen coincides with kernel log
messages:
