Public bug reported:

This package has been causing problems during updates and some other
operations -- mostly delayed startups -- since computer froze and shut
itself down during upgrade from Ubuntu 14.10 to 16.04. Have followed
troubleshooting advice from previous bug report shortly after problems
started and through further research to no avail.
