Hello,

So do you confirm that the latest kernel installed from the PPA also
solves the makedumpfile issue identified in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/xenial/+source/makedumpfile/+bug/1626269
?

Kind regards,

...Louis

Bug description:
  == Comment: #6 - PAVAMAN SUBRAMANIYAM - 2016-09-23 01:12:09 ==
  I have installed the latest Ubuntu 16.10 4.8.0-15-generic kernel on the
machine.

  root@powerkvm3-lp1:~# uname -a
  Linux powerkvm3-lp1 4.8.0-15-generic #16-Ubuntu SMP Wed Sep 21 20:45:56 UTC
2016 ppc64le ppc64le ppc64le GNU/Linux
  root@powerkvm3-lp1:~# cat /etc/os-release
  NAME="Ubuntu"
  VERSION="16.10 (Yakkety Yak)"
  ID=ubuntu
  ID_LIKE=debian
  PRETTY_NAME="Ubuntu 16.10"
  VERSION_ID="16.10"
  HOME_URL="http://www.ubuntu.com/";
  SUPPORT_URL="http://help.ubuntu.com/";
  BUG_REPORT_URL="http://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/";

PRIVACY_POLICY_URL="http://www.ubuntu.com/legal/terms-and-policies/privacy-policy";
  VERSION_CODENAME=yakkety
  UBUNTU_CODENAME=yakkety

  Then again triggered the crash on the machine using sysrq-trigger.

  root@powerkvm3-lp1:~# kdump-config show
  DUMP_MODE:        kdump
  USE_KDUMP:        1
  KDUMP_SYSCTL:     kernel.panic_on_oops=1
  KDUMP_COREDIR:    /var/crash
  crashkernel addr:
     /var/lib/kdump/vmlinuz: symbolic link to /boot/vmlinux-4.8.0-15-generic
  kdump initrd:
     /var/lib/kdump/initrd.img: symbolic link to
/var/lib/kdump/initrd.img-4.8.0-15-generic
  current state:    ready to kdump

  kexec command:
    /sbin/kexec -p
--command-line="root=UUID=85301ac1-2c85-426a-a9f2-fa87254fc9a7 ro quiet splash
irqpoll nr_cpus=1 nousb systemd.unit=kdump-tools.service"
--initrd=/var/lib/kdump/initrd.img /var/lib/kdump/vmlinuz

  root@powerkvm3-lp1:~# cat /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq
  176
  root@powerkvm3-lp1:~# sysctl -w kernel.sysrq=1
  kernel.sysrq = 1
  root@powerkvm3-lp1:~# cat /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq
  1

  But again the machine went to (initramfs) prompt since it could not
  load rootfs.

  Hello Canonical.

  This is related to the issue originally reported in LP Bug 1626269.
  Because Bug 1626269 references two distictly different problems, we
  are mirroring this over to track the issues with the missing crc32c
  module so that LP Bug 1626269 (IBM Bug 146571) can focus on the issue
  with the makedumpfile utility.

  Thanks.
