Tested with 4.10.0-041000rc2-generic. Still did not work. Camera light
comes on, but image on cheese screen is black. If I go to Cheese
preferences, I see Device as "Lenovo EasyCamera" but the dropdown menu
is greyed out and I can't select it.

Running [vlc v4l2:///dev/video0] gives me the video light, but VLC shows
me the orange cone instead of any video.

Running [mplayer tv:// -tv
driver=v4l2:width=640:height=480:device=/dev/video0] gives me a bunch of
repeated error messages as follows:

v4l2: select timeout

Error while decoding frame!

Here in the result from uname -a:

Linux rbmlenovo 4.10.0-041000rc2-generic #201701011831 SMP Sun Jan 1

Same result from lsusb as above.

Title:
Acer, Inc ID 5986:055e device not functioning

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I was following bug #1433906 in the hopes that it would fix the
problem with this device, and was instructed to open a separate bug
for this. The camera stopped working a few Ubuntu versions ago. It
shows up in lsusb as follows:

Bus 002 Device 003: ID 5986:055e Acer, Inc

When I use cheese or other camera applications, the light next to the
camera goes on but the video output is all black. I am currently using
yakkety (16.10) and I have enabled proposed to get the latest kernel
and test the fix from the other bug. Here is the version output from
uname -a (with hostname removed out of excessive security paranoia):
