The repository your are referring to as 3rd party and calling the usage of that repository a WORKAROUND: https://github.com/vlasenko/hid-asus-dkms is a PRIMARY repository of authors of the driver for this hardware at the moment. The code from this repository gets submitted and periodically synchronized to the Linux kernel.
