Ubuntu freeze - Nouveau driver fills syslog when computer is locked

Bug description:
I am used to leave the computer open at nights in lock mode (Ctrl+Alt+L).
Sometimes in the next morning the computer is not responding and i need to
reboot. Today it happened again and I tried to investigate what is happening.
It appears that the freeze happened because /var/log/kern.log and
/var/log/syslog where filled with millions of lines like this:

Each file was 33G so there was not enough space left in /.
Thus, I now understand the reason of the freeze. But I still cannot
understand why the kernel starts writing all these messages in the
first place and what to do to fix that.
Yesterday, I left the computer locked at 18.00 hours and the messages
started appearing 3 hours later -- at 21:01:18 as you can see in the
syslog excerpt below:

Nevertheless, I don't run any screensaver. Only variety periodically
updates the desktop image.
