This bug was "fixed" by re-installing Ubuntu 16.04.3 (downloaded from
ubuntu.com a few days ago).

The buttons did not work initially when I installed the original 16.04
LTS version released in April 2016, so I'm guessing that version of the
kernel did not have that fix.

The current version of the kernel used in 16.04.3 fixed this issue. So
the bug should probably be with the upgrade mechanism of the kernel.

Thank you.

Title:
  Some function keys not working

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I have an ASUS UX305C laptop, and some of the function keys do not
  work.

  The keys in question:

  fn - airplane mode (f2)
  fn - brightness down (f5)
  fn - brightness up (f6)

  I followed the troubleshooting guide at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting with the following results:

  1. acpi_listen gives no output when those keys are pressed
  2. xev gives no output when those keys are pressed

  The keys work on Windows 10. On a more recent version of the similar
  laptop UX430UA-DH74, using the same version of Ubuntu 16.04.3, the
  same keys work properly.
