This bug seems to be fixed upstream as well as by the latest vanilla kernel/upgrade: 4.13.0-45-generic #50~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Wed May 30 11:18:27 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

If I boot via an older kernel (4.13.0-37), networking works like a charm. Other connections like DHCP, static IP or Radius authentication works as well. This is also the reason why I filed the bug against the kernel, and not the network-manager or wpa_supplicant. I have a vanilla ubuntu installation on a Lenovo T440s. Network security settings are attached. The /var/log/syslog is as follows (subjective information obfuscated by '?!?!?!?!?!'): Apr 30 08:59:24 lappy NetworkManager[14860]: <info> [1525071564.8544] device (enp0s25): Activation: starting connection '?!?!?!?!?!'
