I have been using Ubuntu since version 16.04. Everytime I do a clean installation of Ubuntu (16.04, 18.04 and 20.04) on this laptop, the integrated webcam and mic works perfectly as intended. As soon as an update is installed (this happens to me now in 20.04) the webcam stops working. At the begining, this problem could be solved by simply uninstalling cheese and restarting: sudo apt-get --purge remove cheese sudo apt-get install cheese But another update on the system and now the webcam is again dead. This happened also in 16.04 and 18.04. No solution on internet seems to work. For now I use Droidcam along my cellphone. I can provide further details. --- ProblemType: Bug ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.4 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USER PID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC1: mijail 1834 F.... pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: mijail 1834 F.... pulseaudio CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 InstallationDate: Installed on 2020-07-08 (21 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Release amd64 (20200423) MachineType: TOSHIBA Satellite S55-A NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia Package: linux (not installed) ProcFB: 0 i915drmfb ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-5.4.0-42-generic root=UUID=69ac813f-1c74-4767-ae9a-a6c7445b37f3 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.4.0-42.46-generic 5.4.44 RelatedPackageVersions: linux-restricted-modules-5.4.0-42-generic N/A linux-backports-modules-5.4.0-42-generic N/A linux-firmware 1.187.2 Tags: focal Uname: Linux 5.4.0-42-generic x86_64 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin lxd plugdev sambashare sudo _MarkForUpload: True dmi.bios.date: 09/19/2014 dmi.bios.vendor: TOSHIBA dmi.bios.version: 1.90 dmi.board.asset.tag: ATN12345678901234567 dmi.board.name: VG10S dmi.board.vendor: TOSHIBA dmi.board.version: To be filled by O.E.M. dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Tag dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: TOSHIBA dmi.chassis.version: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnTOSHIBA:bvr1.90:bd09/19/2014:svnTOSHIBA:pnSatelliteS55-A:pvrPSKK6U-00X00C:rvnTOSHIBA:rnVG10S:rvrTobefilledbyO.E.M.:cvnTOSHIBA:ct10:cvrToBeFilledByO.E.M.: dmi.product.family: PEGA Family dmi.product.name: Satellite S55-A dmi.product.sku: PSKK6U dmi.product.version: PSKK6U-00X00C dmi.sys.vendor: TOSHIBA To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1889410/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
