hoping to eliminate any preception my setup is non-standard, I just went
ahead and did a full re-install. All default options (full format, etc)
except I selected "LVM + encryption"

upon reboot, I see nothing on the lcd at all.

Title:
  keyboard not working at FDE Passphrase screen

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  fresh install of 20.04.1. Setting up FDE per
  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Full_Disk_Encryption_Howto_2019.
  This is my 4th system following those directions (2 devboxes, one
  other laptop), I'm reasonably confident the steps are sound & I
  followed them correctly.

  after completion and reboot,
      - system boots to the simple text prompt to enter disk encryption
phasephrase;
      - but typing pass+<enter> does nothing (both valid & invalid passwd)
      - (I assume no keypresses are getting through, either, based on other
bugs; but I do note that the capslock key does toggle it's indicator light)

  Googling previous bugs this seems to be a recurring problem. However,
  I believe I've tried or compared requested obvious triage steps in all
  to no avail. The most recent appears to be
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1894017 seems to
  be the most recent), my reproduction looks very similar, but my system
  is reporting /sys/class/dmi/id/chassis_type==31 (from liveusb)

  I've also tried the following:
      - using a usb keyboard
      - blacklisting intel_vbtn + update-initramfs
      - chrooting to the new install from usb media and apt update && apt
upgrade -y
      - setting nosplash in grub + update-grub
      - re-installing with & without secure boot enabled in the bios
      - re-installing with & without non-free (binary blobs) selected
