Thanks again for your reply For some reason I nearly missed your email, Google sent it to Promotions and I only found it because it came up on my phone.
Cold reboot does not show the option of Wayland but logging out did but the HDMI still failed to come up. I also tried running both Bionic Beaver and Xubuntu from DVD but the problem still existed. This makes me wonder if somehow it is a computer problem; although HP is said to be maximized for Ubuntu. When it was current BB worked OK. It is only since upgrade the problem has existed. Hope you have some more thoughts on the matter.
