Now I noticed that the files I was able to save to the CIFS shared drive while the .102 kernel was active were not readable when I switched back to the .101 kernel.

Reverting from .102 to .101 brought everything back to working order as it was before kernel update. Something in the latest kernel 5.15.0-102 is not good for CIFS shares.
