** Description changed:
- Hi!
+ [Impact]
- Previously,
- https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2054809
- already "move erofs.ko (CONFIG_EROFS for EROFS support) from
linux-modules-extra to linux-modules".
+ erofs is starting to see more use as a modern alternative to squashfs.
+ Since squashfs is already included in linux-modules, let's include erofs
+ in linux-modules as well so that it can be used as a filesystem in virtual
+ machines with just linux-virtual installed.
- However, after commit
-
https://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux-azure/+git/noble/commit/?id=4fca1ad899947e965b6c15f4891079b84f23b66c
+ [Fix]
- erofs won't be included anymore, which causes
+ Clean cherry-pick to the noble tree.
- sudo modprobe erofs
- shell: /usr/bin/bash --noprofile --norc -e -o pipefail {0}
- modprobe: FATAL: Module erofs not found in directory
/lib/modules/6.8.0-1014-azure
+ [Test plan]
- fails, could you help address this?
+ Build and boot tested; also installed the generated linux-image and
+ linux-modules packages to confirm that the erofs module could be loaded with
+ "modprobe erofs".
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ Very small risk of regressions.
** Also affects: linux-azure (Ubuntu Noble)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
