Title:
USB ports on Raspberry Pi are deactivated when connecting a Drobo unit
Status in linux-raspi package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
Ubuntu release
Description: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
Release: 20.04
Version package
linux-raspi:
Installed: 5.4.0.1008.8
Candidate: 5.4.0.1008.8
Version table:
*** 5.4.0.1008.8 500
A Drobo unit is an external Raid. My precise model is the 5D3, that can be
connected via USB. A Mac computer will see it as an SCSI external hard disk
drive of 70TB capacity.
Kernel used by Ubuntu 18, would allow to plug in the unit and mount
the device. I'm using now Ubuntu 20.04 LTS with kernel
5.4.0-1008-raspi but it doesn't work anymore.
The moment the device is plugged in, it is correctly detected:
[ 85.177095] usb 1-1.1: new high-speed USB device number 3 using xhci_hcd
But some seconds later, there is a firmware transaction timeout and as
result, all USB ports are deactivated until reboot:
[ 92.733076] Firmware transaction timeout
[ 92.733495] hwmon hwmon0: Failed to get throttled (-110)
[ 95.356138] xhci_hcd 0000:01:00.0: xHCI host controller not responding,
assume dead
Because USB ports are now deactivated, it is not possible to assign an
address to this new device and therefore it cannot be mounted.
[ 95.785084] usb 1-1.1: device not accepting address 3, error -108
[ 95.791673] usb 1-1-port1: couldn't allocate usb_device
