Title:
ubuntu 24.04 - Wayland - i915 firmware not loaded correctly
Status in linux-firmware package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
After upgrading from Ubuntu 23.10 to Ubuntu 24.04, I could no longer
use Wayland. Logging in with Wayland resulted in a black screen.
A potential cause of the issue was that the update-initramfs procedure
reported some missing i915 modules.
The folder /lib/firmware/i915 contained all the modules in a
compressed format (.zst files), but the system was unable to load
them.
I manually copied the uncompressed versions from the 10th of April,
downloaded from linux-firmware.git, and the system, including Wayland,
started working again.
I believe this issue might be related to the compressed modules
option, and perhaps someone knows how to resolve it without this
workaround
