Title:
[25.04 FEAT] [VS2027] KVM: Enable virtio-mem support - kernel part
Status in Ubuntu on IBM z Systems:
Fix Released
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
Fix Released
Bug description:
Feature Description:
The z architecture doesn't support hypervisor initiated memory hot
plugging in the way x86 does. Consequently the libvirt/QEMU APIs for
hotplugging are not supported. Virtio-balloon is often not an adequate
replacement, since it requires guest cooperation and doesn't guarantee
success.? virtio-mem is a paravirtualized approach to memory
hotplugging which can circumvent the architectural limitations. Among
others Kata containers is making use of virtio-mem. It is necessary to
ensure that virtio-mem is supported on IBM Z across the entire stack
(kernel, QEMU, libvirt).
