bhaskar, as per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/precision-m6600/drivers an update to your BIOS is available (A15). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Then, instead of going to sleep, it remains powered up. In this state, nothing works to get back control, not Ctrl-Alt-Del, Ctrl-Alt-Backspace, Ctrl-Alt-F2 (or other function key), not ^C. The only way I have found to get control is to hold the power button down, which is a power-down and then power-up. Message on console is: [40066.396632] PM: Syncing filesystems ... done [40066.767832] PM: Preparing system for mem sleep [40066.768398] i2400m_usb 2-1.5:1.0: firmware i6050-fw-usb-1.5.sbcf: Cached [40066.768473] Freezing user space processes ...
