Just installed 3.16.0-6 .iso and upgraded today to 3.16.0-10. Both kernels are in /boot.
If I select 3.16.0-10 boots to desktop, from past investigations that means compiz failed and hence unity failed. If I select 3.16.0-6 boots just fine, 3D and all. Since it's the same install, everything else in utopic is the same, just one kernel boots fine and the other does not. BTW, once in many many tries 3.16.0-10 does boot. That's how a race condition would behave, depending on what code gets past a certain point versus other code. This one runs: Linux Lenovo2 3.16.0-6-generic #11-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jul 28 01:59:56 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) model name : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz BTW, utopic 32 bit runs fine, compiz, unity and all. Lubuntu amd64 runs fine, no surprise, no compiz. Will boot the failing 3.16.0-10 and get it's LSPCI. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1346096 Title: [drm:init_ring_common] *ERROR* render ring initialization failed Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: After last apt-get dist-upgrade my computer can not start with a graphic environment.
