For your information while fiddling with Ubuntu Software Center on 04 Oct 2014, I have uninstalled the followings:- a) synatics-touchpad (16.3.7.72) b) oem-input-synaptics-1057412 (3-stella1) c) oem-input-synapticsled-1098063-dkms (1.0stella2) After that I discovered the touchpad is working.
