Looks like a BIOS update fixed this, as it hasn't been reproducible so far, after putting extra ordinary graphics/processor/RAM stress for days. Should have eaten my own dog food on a BIOS update earlier (I thought it was latest and greatest as I checked a couple months back for one). Sorry for the noise.
