Here's an update to the networking patch:

The patch is almost exactly the last patch but with a bug in if_re
fixed (Sepherosa Ziehau).
I'm still on track for a monday commit. There are two other issues
related to the work, but they can be handled in followup commits.
Once I get this in I will go through recent cleanups posted to submit@
and get those in as well.
