Because Sun has more people working on java than we do by several
orders of magnitude. Right now, it's more than what I can do in a timely
fashion to simply make decaf+JJOS a complete JVM, much less worrying about
speed. Not only is the code itself slow, but there are (probably) a large
number of optimizations available even to an interperter, optimizations
of which I haven't taken advantage.
