It is most useful at telling me when things have not worked out in the
way I expected them to, either due to my error (forgetting to 'make
dist-release') or other issues.   I am not exactly sure what purpose
the line was supposed to serve, but it has made me realize that what I
was trying to build was incorrect on more than one occasion.
