  while that's a nice idea, because i'm trying to make this part of a
course, i want the first exercise to be *extremely* simple -- to
simply load something that's already there and ready to go.  that
would be followed by the students then writing their own
miscdevice-based driver.

  so, starting on the trivial end, i just wondered whether there was a
module that already fit the bill i could use as a test example, and i
don't immediately see one.
