Recent release notes from Altium show they have changed defaults for DRC to turn off text DRC checks. Therefore, even if portions of the DRC slow down the overall - it may be acceptable to turn off some of the DRC checks by default.
Certainly, the aspire target would be to have a lightning-fast engine that allows for all DRC checks to be enabled without any impact to performance. However, based on competitive analysis - speed is not necessarily a highest concern with respect to text and other classes of DRCs.
