I just discovered that if you reduce the number of layers of a board and there were zones on the removed layers, they don't get removed from the board. I don't know if this applies to traces and/or buried vias but my guess is that it does. Before I file a bug report, can anyone think of any reason to keep layer elements in the board once the layer is removed from the board? I can't.
