Having been working on the digikey-kicad-library lately, there's plenty of MFG PNs with commas, spaces, periods, various slashery, octothorps, parenthesis, semicolons, colons, asterisks, underscores, dollar signs, equal signs, ampersands. It's a pain in the behind to do substitutions.
